Strickler Knob and "White House"South Fork, Luray. Winter's pale sunrise tints Strickler Knob, jutting from fog-wrapped Massanutten. Below stands the White House, built around 1760 by Europeen settlers who traveled the Valley Pike from Central Pennsylvania. Like the German, Scotch-Irish and English who came with and after them, these pioneers built massive walls and washed them thickly with quicklime and sand, fending off harsh weather and other enemies more sharply armed. |
