Strickler Homestead near Wrightsville

Heinrich Strickler settled in Lancaster County, where he purchased a 200 acre farm in Hempfield Township, one mile east of Columbia, Pennsylvania. A third home, which is still well preserved, was erected on the premises in1803 by Jacob Strickler. It is a large stone house of 14 rooms, measuring 90 feet long by 50 feet wide. Its masonry is expertly done. A winding stairway leads from the kitchen to the third floor. There are several open fireplaces and halls of unusual width, which lend a lot of character to the residence. A veranda, 12 feet in width, extends along the entire length of the home's east side. Recently a substantial stone wall was erected around a cemetery, which is located on the farm. The remains of the Stricklers along with others are found there -- including those of slaves owned by the Strickler family.
